As a CEO and founding partner of a cloud consultancy company, there are days that I feel I’ve seen it all, and yet, there’s so much more to learn and grow from.
Last week SVB related events brought anxiety, introspection, and in the end, perspective. Seeing how such a robust institution can become so fragile makes me, in the end, realize that there’s one thing we, as operators, can control: The execution of our companies.
I started using ServiceNow as a customer during my time at Flex in 2009 when the company was private and was run by its Founder, Fred Luddy. Back in the day, Fred will tell us how one-day data centers would replicate from coast-to-coast real-time and how ServiceNow would change how companies operate over time. After seeing how different CEOs came on board and added their own personal flavor & legacy, it’s impressive to see how the company continues to deliver on its promise to its customers, investors, and now partners.
We are lucky to be part of a thriving ecosystem that has enabled so many tech careers, changed the lives of many of us, and allowed us to do what we love every day. When I talk to our recent Volteo Digital - ServiceNow Next-generation graduates, I emphasize the size of the opportunity they must capitalize on, the responsibility it brings to serving our customers, and the subsequent decades of ServiceNow’s ecosystem development. Our mission is to drive business outcomes for our customers while we enable life-changing careers for our people, and I firmly believe we can’t be wrong by prioritizing both of those fronts.
Today Meta announced another round of layoffs, 10,000 this time, and the closure of 5,000 additional open roles in its second major round of job cuts in the past six months. Regional bank stocks are roaring back this morning; stocks are up, crypto is up, and inflation is down….Wow, what a time to be an entrepreneur.
In these turbulent times, it is a great reminder that now more than ever, it is critical to be laser-focused to drive outcomes and value for our clients and to take care of our employees so they can make it happen. I feel certain the organizations that do this best in the coming months will thrive in the years ahead.
